We bought some paper bags from our local chinese supermarket.
Got a huge bundle of the things, very cheaply. Let DS decorate them for each person. Had plenty left over and still use them for all sorts of things
We all evolve - get on with it
  • My daughter (5) has been to plenty of parties where all are given a 'lucky dip' small pesent - these always go down well.

That said, for her own party she wanted more trad 'bags', so a small pack of pencils, a small colouring/quiz book, a punch balloon and a slice of cake (which gets you out of adding sweets etc...)

I work on what I find cheaply from year to year - another year I found some funky plastic cups with built in straws - put a balloon (etc) inside and wrapped in cellophane they looked cool!

Recently I noticed woolworths were selling 50 mini pots of playdoh for £5 - they could get 2 each, and you would have loads left over for the party girl to keep.

    have fun!

My daughter was recently at a part where the 'bag' was actually a plastic / picnic beaker, in different colours (at the risk of being boring, blue or green for boys, pink or purple for girls ??). The contents fitted inside, and then everything was wrapped up in florists cellophane and a bit of curly gift ribbon. Looked nice, and quite practical. The beaker could adapt quite nicely as a tooth mug if you could still get the cheap kids toothpaste and toothbrushes ??

I also liked the previous suggestion of pencil cases - might use that one for DD2's 8th which is coming up all too fast !!

    Good luck !
  • hi i had paper bags from elc sale before £1 for 8 with stickers to right name on. I bought sponge balls from elc too - 3 balls for about £1 and put one each so just over 30p a ball - less if have 20% off. I also bought necklace/braclet sets in accessorize sale - about £1 but look much more and great for dressing up box. I think i also have done/or looked at the play doh sets - elc also do some small tubs - all reasonable hth
  • oh another thing - for dh1 4th party we made pizza and they each cut out shortbread biscuit - choosing what shape they wanted and decorated them - one to eat at party and one to take home

You can make your own playdough cheaply. Put 1 cup of water, 1 cup of plain flour, 2 tbsp of cream of tartar, half a cup of salt, 1 tbsp of cooking oil and some food colouring or powder paint into a pan. Stir over a medium heat until this makes a dough. Leave to cool and store in a plastic container in the fridge. I use a medium sized mug as a cup and it makes about a takeaway container full. How about a bulb for the children to plant?

Ive just done a party for my 11yr old and used these:

We hole punched the corner of a "thank you" card and tied it to each bag.

Another great idea is personalised candy wrappers, you can buy these on ebay but after a hunt around i found these, basically most of them fit around a kitkat but you can personalise them with "Thank you for coming to xxxxx birthday"

Or if you dont want to personalise then just chose one of these templates:

When it was my daughters birthday last year i bought a bulk lot of buckets and spades from asda (they were selling them off at the time) and i used these as a party bag, i included bubbles, raisins and a punch balloon with each. I also bought a few bags of sparkly pencils and seperated them. Once the cake was in it looked like i was being really quite generous.
For previous parties i have had the goodies in paper bags and put home made sparkly confetti in to each bag which probably iritated all of the other parents but i have to have my fun.
I was at a party recently were see thro bags were used and a ballon tided to the top of each with ribbons etc. They looked really good and i dont suppose they cost much but i dont know where she got them from (Sorry).
Kids parties are so expensive but they are fun, i wouldnt worry to much about them and just have fun.
