What do you do when your toddler is ill?

My little miss (just 2) has come down with croup again- she's not had it for nearly 8 months as it normally pops up when she's cutting a tooth. She's also got the cold, blocked nose & temperature that goes with it.
Today, all she wants to do is sit on the beanbag with her blankets and watch Maisy Mouse or funnybones videos and read books. Admittedly we did have a horrible night because of her coughing
but is it ok to spend a whole day just watching vids and reading books (this is the first time in ages). She really doesn't want to move anywhere and i don't want to drag her out.
What do you do with your ill 2 year old?

Poor little thing! One day of watching DVDs, TV etc won't hurt. If she has had a bad night the chances are that she is tired. I would make her as comfortable as possible and keep her company where you can. You could also read to her to break up the TV watching. If it nice and warm where you are you could make sure she is wrapped up and give her some fresh air in the garden if you have one. I hope she gets better soon. Now debtfree except for the mortgage!0

Spend the day infront of the telly, wrapped up in a blanket....
Absolutely! :T
And the only thing ill people are allowed to eat are Heinz tomato soup, or at a push, dippy eggs and marmite soilders.
It's the best way to ensure a complete recovery.
I can't wait til I'll next ill..........:D0 -
Thankyou! I'm feeling a bit guilty about not taking advantage of our one good weekend in ages- typical Tabitha bless her"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye."...Miss piggy0

Hi Alanalea don't feel at all guilty. I've been ill over the weekend and my poor son has been kept amused by the TV. Its one of those things there are other days that we can make up for it. As for croup have you tried using a humidifier? My son used to get croup all the time and really bad asthma too when the weather was either really hot or really cold it seemed to set it off. I tried a humidifier it didn't cure the problem but made a huge difference. Good luck and hope she gets better soon0

poor love
you wouldn't be doing much different if she was in hospital.
i've just spent 9 days in hospital with my 2 year old and the dvd player was a godsend. i didn't feel guilty for him being a couch potato, he was poorly.
is she a young two, still in a buggy? i would maybe take her out in the pram for a bit with the blanket, to push her not to get her to walk. just for a change and to stop her eyes getting sore from too much TV. but i don't know much about croup, would that make it worse?
if she spends all day on the sofa so be it. most adults would do the same if they were ill. coughing all night really disrupts your sleep.'bad mothers club' member 13

She's quite an old 2, hates being in the buggy and would prefer to walk everywhere. I managed to get her out into our back garden for a while on the swing, but then she got herself upset over something due to lack of sleep. She's had a couple of hours sleep early this afternoon (so did I) and nows she's back to watching Maisy on tv.
I hope your son is better now?"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye."...Miss piggy0 -
Sweetie when they're little and genuinely poorly (as opposed to when they're older and develop headaches and sore tummies when asked to tidy their rooms
) let them do whatever helps and if its a blankie on the sofa and dvds all day then so be it, its certainly not going to do her any harm for a couple of days. Hope shes better soon. x

hi, thanks yes roo is fine now but while he was poorly he watched a lot of dvds. he had a cough this week, just a bug not croup but the lack of sleep really affected things (for me as well as him, i slept in his bed with him ) and he was just too tired to play properly.
there were some children with croup in the hospital and it seemed quite nasty, especially at night. the constant coughing must be exhausting. don't beat yourself up about her being a cough potato today, and there are worse things to watch than maisie'bad mothers club' member 13

Let her veg and rest; she'll recover quicker. Bless her."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0
