Battery Charge Fault : Renault Grand Scenic. Help please
Hi
Ok, got a bit of strange one here lol
We've got a 57 plate 1.5 dci and we've had it since 2008. About four years ago, 'BATTERY CHARGE FAULT' lit up on the dash. A friend of mine said it's usually the alternator. He said I could get a replacement or a refurbished one but if a different alternator went back in, sometimes the 'BCF' warning still pops up as it doesn't recognise the replacement. So, he took the alternator out for me, I took it to be refurbished, and we put it back in.
Drove the car home and, after about 20 minutes, BCF reappeared. Had it MOTD a few times and the garage cleared the computer of all notifications. I wondered if it was somehow remembering the old fault . It still reappeared lol
This was about 4 years ago. In that time we've been on LONG trips. 5 hour drives to ferry port, drove around France for a week. Numerous trips back and fro to London (4 hours).
On every journey we take the BCF appears after about 15 mins. Other than the warning light, it's been absolutely fine. Never had a flat battery or anything.
Last year the car was 7 years old and still had the original battery so I changed it and it's still the same.
Anyone else had this?
Any suggestions please?
Tia

If it s French its probably a wiring fault, maybe in the loom that goes to the dashboard. Have you measured the voltage across the battery with the engine running? If the alternator is working it should be around 14 volts, if not it will be more like 12 volts.0

If the voltages are correct. Then it could be the sensor that needs replacing. When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you. Nietzsche
Please note that at no point during this work was the kettle ever put out of commission and no chavs were harmed during the making of this post.0 -
Wasnt refurbished properly then, a new one would fix the fault had it on a clio 1.5 DCi. :T0
