Care homes

I am trying to get a choice in where i live but the local authority keep trying to find ways to delay giving me a choice (arguments about it started about 1 year ago).
I been trying to change tactics recently and have been asking for documents that are needed for me to find placements myself as this one has been completely crap so my thinking is that if it is going to be crap any way why can it not be cheap as well. (the current one is horribly costly to the tax payer and no the staffing ratios are often crap) the documents i asked them for is the Funding levels (I know it is below £599 per week with the suggestion set at £500 per week but i need the document to prove it.
The other one i need is the terms and contract (as i am not going to get anywhere if i do not the terms).

For the current staffing levels provided i think i could find a home for less than £400 per week.

Why is the local authority so hard to deal with when i can reduce costs?

No one seams to be accountable for overspending on public funds at all but it is the same LA that has in the past been known to lose money.

It is a breach of the law to not allow me the documents to search for places myself.

If you are self funding, you can choose wherever you like, but if the establishment takes council funded clients, you are certain to be overcharged to make up for the shortfall from council funding.

    OP isn't self funding.

I do accounting for a care home provider and I would be astonished if you could find one for £400 a week, let alone one that would be willing to accommodate your needs.

You don't need the terms and conditions for your current placement, they are between the home and social services. Have you approached any other homes regarding being assessed for suitability?

Staffing levels at most if not all homes are a big problem, my mum was in a care home now in a nursing home, and they have both had problems with meeting minimum staffing levels on a regular basis.

If you'd be astonished, I'd be flabbergasted!! My Mum was in a Care Home that cost £1750 a month - that was in 1996!!! My husband was in one last year, for about 6 months until he died, and that was just under £800 a week for self-funders. And was one of the cheapest in the area.

Several are over £1300 a week, especially if the resident is there because of something other than frailty, like Alzheimer's, but the pay for the staff is abysmal.

I would love to know of any Care Home, anywhere in the UK, that charges £400 a week!
