Hi all,
I wonder if there are any brokers here who can give a basic opinion on the following: I'm currently in the application process for my Life Assurance and CI Cover with Friends Life. At the point of initial preliminary application last week I gave all my info correctly etc. and am due the final call on Monday to run through the full and final etc. This week however, I had a routine annual medical, and had an ecg which showed - an apparently - very common arrhythmia called bigenimy. The doctor was not concerned, says it is nothing to worry about, is very common and requires no medication or monitoring. He advised it is not a precursor to any further more serious condition, and means NO increased likelihood of any heart issues in the future vs someone without it. However, obviously I now need to declare this when I speak with the chaps on Monday, and am now worried they'll refuse me cover as I worry Insurance underwriters are on the sterner side of medical information? Does anyone know if this is an accepted pre-existing condition? Would it mean I am excluded from cover for heart-related conditions even if the doctor says it's not a concerning factor?
Thanks all x

Hi, I'm an insurance underwriter. You will need to declare this newly diagnosed condition on the application and it's likely the underwriters will request a report from your GP about it. I wouldn't class bigeminy as a "very common" condition but it's not exactly rare either. You might be looking at an increased premium, particularly for the critical illness cover, but I doubt you'll be refused cover.0
