new A5 samsung phone is not compatible with smartswitch - what to use instead?

Options
I'm trying to transfer all of my contacts and data, including calendar stuff from my old samsung s3 to my new samsung A5. I've looked at the tutorials online and they are all saying to use smart switch which has successfully downloaded onto my S3 but I cannot get it on my A5 because it is apparently not compatible. Does anyone know how to get everything transferred across if I can't use smart switch? Some of my contacts have transferred but not all of them. I can see them all on my new phone but the list is a lot shorter on my new phone!

I've got both phones, cables, wifi and a laptop but no idea how to do it! I've been here for 2 hours so have been trying!:o

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks :)

Try KIES the application that preceded smart switch .
Contacts back up via Google .

Isn't smart switch an Android to IOS switcher?

So should I just sync with google then?

How do I get my calendar stuff moved?

I've got kies on my laptop so will try that as well.

  • I could cry. I have imported and exported the contacts so much on my old phone that I now have multiple copies of each contact and I am still not getting the full list on my new phone.

I've tried Kies but it only seems to copy my photos, not my contacts.

Yes, for contacts and calendar simply synch your old phone with your Google account if it's not synched. Check both the contacts and the calendar online. Then synch the new phone.

For photos, music etc. simply connect the old phone to a PC as an external drive and copy them to the PC. Then similarly copy from the PC to the relevant folders in the new phone.

Not getting all the contacts because some are on the SIM and some are on the phone? backup both and delete the duplicates.

As it's android, go to here :
    https://contacts.google.com

Log in with your usual google info. that will show you all the contacts you've synced. It has the handy option to "find Duplicates" and you can save/export your contacts as a backup as well. ;)
