Voluntary Redundancy Settlement Advice Required

I have been selected for potential voluntary redundancy from my job and consequently I am really stressed out about the whole situation and would appreciate any help people on here can offer me.
I have been offered the following proposed settlement to take voluntary redundancy :
Pay in lieu of holidays due.
Pay in lieu of 3 weeks statutory notice,
Statutory redundancy payment.
Ex gratia payment .
The first three I know that I cannot legally change, but I need help with regard to the ex gratia payment I am being offered to leave quietly and take their offer.
The current offer only equates to one months gross salary.
Is this normal ?
Is it a fair amount ?
Is it negotiable ?
Can I at least try and ask for more ?
How much is an acceptable amount to try for , for example three months gross salary ?
How I am supposed to give on this if I don't find another job straight away ?
Any help on the above would be gratefully received.

How can you be selected for voluntary redundancy? That doesn't sound very voluntary.
There is no such thing as "normal", so you can haggle for anything you think you could get. They can only refuse. But it is none of their concern how you live on the deal - you take it or not. Once your employment terminates then they have no interest in how quickly you get a job.
But do be aware of that first line here - you can't be selected for voluntary redundancy - and if they make it compulsory redundancy you will get a lot less. Are they likely to do that?0 -

I think you mean you've been selected for potential redunancy and you may be able to volunteer. The ex-gratia payment is probably based on the number of complete years worked, typically a week's gross pay per year worked, but maybe more (or less). You should ask how it's calculated, if it's not documented anywhere in your employment handbook or other paperwork you have. How long have you worked there, 3 years?
As sangie595 says, it's not their responsibility how you manage after you've left, but you have my sympathy. Something will turn up for you if you think and act positively.0 -
Some useful replies, advice and help from the posters.
I was somewhat shell shocked when I put the original post on here, but since then I have taken advice from a union official, Citizens Advice, and most importantly from a good employment law solicitor.
My situation has become a lot clearer to me, if no easier.
I will get through this somehow as others clearly have.
Thanks for your help.0
