Catalytic converter or fail MOT
Just realised that MOT due soon on focus. Can't believe a year has passed already. Last MOT, mechanic said it needed anew catalytic converter and passed me by using some 'liquid' stuff not sure what ???? Anyway, I'm pushing my luck to try and pass again this year. Should I sell car and let buyers know it needs a cc??Or should I replace CC. I like car and it has low mileage for its year. How much for CC? What's the cheapest way to replace it??? Should I buy one??? Where??? Ask mechanic to fit it????

if you shop about you will get prices between £80 and £300
gen ford will last thw best but are expensive, go to somewhere liek exhaust unlimited to get a good aftermarket 1 cheap
not that easy to fit yourself as a home job, its just a part of exhaust but usually the studs want to snap and are hard to get too
it may be ok tho, aslong as its nice and hot its worth a shot, if it fails then get 1 fitted then i'd say
give the car a bit of a thrash to the mot, keep the revs high so stay in 2nd etc etc
if you do get a new 1 the old 1 is worth money so you could take it to a scrap place and get up to £50 for itfor the original 10 -
See if it fails first! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Thank you for yr replies. How can the old one be worth anyhting if it's broken? Should I buy CC separately and ask mechanic to fix or have the garage to it all. I've been quoted £200 - £500 by garages.0

If the cat has failed and is rattling then you then you need to find out why it failed or the new one could go the same way. The emissions test at the MOT will tell you if everything is in order. Make sure you keep the print out and post the results up on here.
This site seems good value, do a search for your engine size/year.

PS You can sell your old cat because of the precious metals which are inside, scrap metal merchants will buy em. Have a look in your yellow pages or do a search on Google.0 -
We live in norfolk and there are a few exhausts unlimited about here. They do have other places, depends where you live, heres their website.

and yes it would be cheaper for you to find one and get a garage to fit, some garages get a bit ar**y about this but sure you could find one that wouldn't.0 -
