Both drives have the same capacity, speed, buffer size etc. The Elements drive has a 2 year warranty (it's rare for an external drive to have more than 1 year) and is more recent, though both drives are still current models.

What is the difference between these two? functional? size? look?
Same function, with the Essential (the more expensive one) having 'Intelligent drive management features: The My Book drive turns itself on and off with your computer.' Apparently, it also has 'Smart design — The elegant case, iconic of a book, takes up less space on your desk, stacks horizontally or vertically, and allows two or more drives to nestle neatly together like volumes on a shelf.' The Essential no doubt looks better too.

Essential at WD [Dimensions (WxDxH): 14.1 cm x 17.1 cm x 5.7 cm]
Elements at WD [Dimensions (WxDxH): 12.5 cm x 20.4 cm x 3.6 cm]

Warranty duration seems to differ: Essential is 2 years, while Elements is 1 year - it's the reverse on Amazon!

Elements seems to be their most basic model (see list), while Essential is one step up.
Please help me choose in buying!!!!!:o
I'd go for the more expensive Essential, mainly because of the greater warranty (if the WD info is accurate!). G

P.S. Comparison list if you ever have to compare the Essential model with any other one except Elements, which is strangely missing from the list!
