    Hi

    Well we are in the clutching at straws phase

    It is possible (really really long shot) that any money that cannot be allocated, like a death grant should be passed to the government
    https://www.gov.uk/government/statistical-data-sets/unclaimed-estates-list#the-list

    I had a case that was not resolved, hence the thought.

    "the-list" is a CSV file which opens in LibreOffice and can be sorted alphabetically to help.
    Not knowing (and I really don't need to) your mothers name I take an example...

    unclaimed estate. Theoretically if there is any death benefit, it should have been passed to government to await a claim(s).

    This should have done by the pension fund I imagine, guessing by the time scales.

    John, I am au fait with pensions in general, but you might better help the poster with Plain english.

    AS for this pension, a disability and was the deceased sole carer. This should at least see the death benefit being paid if they were still in the scheme?

    It was paid - it's the Life Assurance cover. See the section on active members on the TPAS website;

    If you’re a member of a defined benefit pension scheme, the scheme will normally pay a pension to your surviving spouse or civil partner. The amount of the pension is calculated as a proportion of the pension that you would have received had you survived to your retirement age, but based on your pensionable earnings at the date of your death.

    The scheme may also pay a pension to your dependent children, or other financial dependants, calculated in a similar way, although children’s pensions are usually a lower amount than that paid to a surviving spouse or civil partner. It’s good to remember, that a payment of dependants’ pensions are in addition to any cash lump sum benefits received from the scheme’s life cover.

    As the pension scheme had been notified for the life cover to have been paid out to the OP's daughter, it is more than likely that checks would also have been made to see if the daughter qualified for an ongoing pension under its rules.

    Aged 18 and not in further eduction and not disabled means that you probably didn't qualify as a dependent.

    This is where you get into shades of grey and it would depend on what the classification of disabled is. I havent had any experience on this. Hopefully, one of the pension administrators that posts here will be able to give their insight.
