car insurance fees

I've just moved house and after informing the insurance company (hastings) they want £60 including a £25 fee. My policy has been running for only 3 months and cost £345 I said I wanted to cancel and they tell me the total refund after fees is £94? To make matters worse a new quote from hasting for the same cover is only £299. I feel like whatever I do I'm getting ripped off !
I've just re-quoted for my old and new address and guess what hastings price at new address is lower than the old one!

Nothing you have said suggests any rip off.I've just re-quoted for my old and new address and guess what hastings price at new address is lower than the old one!
Yes one discounting means that is a frequent occurrence. Its a common method used in many areas of retail. Sky tv, broadband etc.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I'm just over three months into my policy which cost £340 they say the fees for cancelling are £45 but my refund is only going to be £94 ?0

Are there any add ons e.g. breakdown, legal cover etc as these are usually non-refundable.All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0

nope just the basic policy, I have asked them to explain so just waiting but they are trying to twist my arm by telling me I have 7 days to accept or cancel.0

Yes it is a rip off but most budget insurers are the same. If you change anything other than at renewal time you lose out. Nothing much you can do about it unless you research beforehand those diminishing number of insurers who don't charge or don't charge much for mid-term policy changes but if you find one you will probably pay more for your policy in the first place.0

Pay the fees and move on - you are causing yourself a load of stress for some relatively small admin fee and an adjustment of premium for a change of your risk (different address)0

I know what your all saying, It's just bugs me so much lol
The fact that they are taking so much off me if I choose to cancel is beyond a joke! For ref does anyone know of companies that don't charge a fee? My other car renews in a few months and I do tend to change cars a bit.
I agree I'm probs just gonna have to pay it (grudgingly) though
On a similar matter my RAC renewal has just arrived and the price has gone up by over 35% for the same cover! They tried this last year to even though I've not had a call out since 2011, I dug my heels in told them I was going to the AA and a week before it renewed they reduced the price to the same as last year. Lets hope same applies later this month, if not AA here I come.0 -
Some companies let you make mid term changes like house moves without an admin charge if you do it online.
But material changes (like address/car etc) usually mean a premium adjustment (up or down)
If you cancel mid term though, charges are usual, and are often expensive!0 -
yup I've kind of accepted it, guess I just needed to have a rant. Annoying though that when I get a new on line quote from them the old property has a higher premium than my new one !0

Just changed my 2nd car over (insured with e-car) no extra premium and no fee to change it ! Shame I didn't insure both with them I guess lol0
