How do you get a student discount card?

My son goes to college full time, and would like to know if there's a way to get a student discount on websites and in shops.. is there a free way without paying for a card?

Some places will offer a discount on production of a student ID card but it'll be up to the retailer/provider whether they do this - even as a 50 year-old postgraduate I got a discount on haircuts and on glasses that I bought from Vision Express. Best thing is for him to ask before buying, if you don't ask you don't get.

  • Yes, get an NUS card, you pay something like £10 a month for 10-15% off places like Topman and other highstreet retailers.

If you don't want to pay for one you should get them through college!

Also, open a Natwest student account and you'll get things like railcards, tastecards etc. as a student.

It's actually £12 a year for an NUS card :)

this depends on what the OP means by "college" to get an NUS card you have to studying a further or higher education course.

Actually you can get a NUS extra card when you turn 16 and still in secondary school!

Nope! You can also get one if you're studying GCSEs in year 11 as long as you're 16.
  • Unidays is the main route that websites use.
