Broken TV bought from Amazon Germany

Hi,

I have a TV which I bought from amazon germany in aug 13 so not long past two years. It recently stopped working and I've been quoted £260 to repair (mainboard and screen).

I read that in circumstances the Sale of Goods Act can apply under the Brussels Regulation and that I can argue not fit for purpose. What are my chances of pulling this off?

Thanks
James

Slim but well worth asking. How much was the TV in the first place, or rather how much would you now pay for an equivalent spec?

In Germany they don't have the same rights as we do in the UK so your chances are slim at best.

The 2 year EU rule that we don't use will be where your problem lies.

I paid the equivalent of about £680, at the time, but that was a significant discount. As for now, very little matches it, it's hard to say maybe £500.

thought that might be the case but then there's a thing on Which say something along the lines of 'under the Brussels Regulation in circumstances the Sale of Goods Act can apply'. However, it doesn't say what those circumstances are!

£500 less two years usage circa £200 .
Any not fit for purpose claim will require an engineers report .

Are you basing that statement on German law, or something else? ;)

It's likely that German (or any other EU country's legislation) would have a similar requirement.
