Unhappy in job - feel trapped

  • Thanks all for the encouraging words.

I'm reassured to know that my recent employment changes aren't so frequent as to appear flaky! I've thought about it long and hard. At the moment, I'm inclined to try to resurrect my legal career as this has been my most happy and confident period of employment upon reflection. I've started taking steps to regain recognition as a solicitor, albeit non-practising at present.

It's not going to be easy but I'm sure now that my current employment and profession is not what I want for a career. I guess once that decision has been reached, it's a no-brainer to take steps to change.

    Thanks again for the support

In England , I found that it is pretty common especially for white collar jobs to change roles every 2-3 years and certainly won't look necessarily bad. So don't beat yourself about it.
Would you be interested in perhaps getting some help about public speech issues? I feel similar and dislike to talk in public , perhaps you could get some help through CBT? http://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/types-of-mental-health-problems/self-esteem/#.VmBOD3bhC70

This could help you to go through it until you find something you enjoy.
Good luck and don't feel that you are alone. Including myself, many people feel similar things.

What don't you at least try to apply to law posts you see advertise. If anything it will get your mind off your current job and at least you will know where you stand in terms of how your CV look to prospective employers so that can help you decide whether doing so is the right track to take.
  • Thanks all. By way of update, I've started taken steps towards having my name reinstated on the Roll of Solicitors, which had lapsed as I had stopped the annual payments to maintain this privilege. I've also spoken already with a couple of legal recruiters and plan to speak to more next week. All sounding relatively promising at the moment but it's going to be a long road to get back into law. I feel so much better for taking the first steps though.
