Wrong Reg Number on PCN

If the registration number on a Parking Charge Notice is wrong is it enforceable?

Comments

  • Council or private?
Council and it is unlikely they can contact you plus they are not allowed to reissue if they notice.
Private and you should win appeal, if they can find you.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Assuming this is private as you've put 'PARKING Charge Notice (but please confirm as advice will differ if Council), was this on a ticket left on the windscreen?

In that case, just ignore it for now till you see if you get an NTK - The chances are that with a wrong number, they won't get your details from the DVLA - some other poor sod might get letters though!

It doesn't matter if they have a photo with the correct number as they cannot change it after the fact.

So your chances of getting shot of this if they do try and NTK you are very good indeed. :)

Parking scumpanies have been know to deliberately put the wrong details on a windscreen ticket in the hope that some poor mug will 'phone up, save the scammers the £2.50 DVLA fee, and inadvertently reveal the driver's details thus giving away a valuable appeal point.

So as advised above, wait for the NTK and never ever 'phone the scammers.

Do not pay, do not ignore, do not reveal who was driving, do not miss the appeal deadline.

Yep, ignore it but KEEP IT - for years - and if they alter the details by looking at the photos and send a NTK you can beat them at appeal on that basis easily.

Most likely you will hear nothing. If you do, have a chuckle at their audacity & come back here.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Almost. They CAN still issue a new parking charge once they realise their error. However, they won't notice till after 28 days, when they apply to the DVLA for the keeper details. They may apply for the details of the wrong reg (which may come back as "no such vehicle") or they may check the photos before applying. In any case, if you do get a notice to keeper, it cannot possibly conform to Protection of Freedoms Act, as the details won't match the Notice to Driver. This makes only the driver liable, and any appeal won't be mentioning who the driver was, will it?
