O/S Daily Thread for Wednesday 2nd December 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and going to work shortly. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.
Still dark, it’s not raining at the moment, feels quite mild too.
Dinner last night was smoked sausage and mushroom pasta in a crème fraiche sauce. Remembered to get chicken out to defrost for tonight’s dinner, that’s now safely in the fridge, I’ll serve pots, and LO’s and just do extra veg if needed. I have parent’s evening for DS2 later this afternoon, so I’ll need to be prepared.
Work yesterday was a bit of a nightmare, very busy, with not enough staff. I’m only working until lunchtime today then I’m on days’ off. Only worked until lunch yesterday as took DS2 for his hospital appointment in the afternoon, I’m very impressed with the Doc we saw, she was very good and he’s had another load of blood tests, got those done yesterday and another one (too early on here to name it!) She’s thinking it’s being brought on by stress, but wants to run these tests to rule out Crohns diease, or Coealics (sp?) or there’s a virus that you can get that affects the lining of your stomach and causes stomach pain but it’s normally found in adults – and she doesn’t think it’s that either. She’s of the thought that realistically it’s the school pushing – as he’s in his final year and of course we’ve had loads of issues with them – this only started when the trouble at school did. Can’t wait to get him out of there next May.
Have the joy of the outlaws coming over this afternoon after work before I go to the Parents evening, they have a couple of jobs they want me to do on the computer. Hoping she doesn’t start as her and DH had words on Monday and DH finished up putting the phone down on her – he’s so disgusted with her at the moment and her attitude and nastiness at times is beyond belief. It’s likely that unless I bring the subject up they won’t say anything – they’ll be too scared they won’t get their jobs done they want and they also know if they start I don’t hold back, I tell her exactly what I think and of course they’ll be in my house so if they really start they’ll get shown the door. She also can’t bear the fact that she tries to talk down and criticise me and I just agree with her or just say “yeah maybe/yeah whatever” and still go off and do exactly what I want or my own thing, she knows full well I don’t really care and what they think of me really doesn’t bother me, they really gets to her. She’s dug herself a huge hole after not having anything to do with her 90 year old father after another distant relative died and some money was left – MIL felt it should be given to her and her siblings and some other relatives, but it was given to her father – it’s all to do with the dates the relative died and the date nan died – the money went to grandad first and of course she’ll get it eventually and she was told that – but going round banging on the door and demanding you’re given it straight away doesn’t work!
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Welcome Mrs Butler, hope the move goes ok Elona, Lainy, glad to hear your good news, LW you must make your lodgers feel so welcome.
I was asked to dog sit this weekend but refused as we have a busy weekend ahead and now it's even busier as we have people visiting, a couple with a very naughty 4 year old, oh joy.
Still it might make me do some housework as the wife is very judgemental, actually I'm more likely to tell her a few home truths, lol!
I've managed to get 5 loads of washing done for DD1, but only got 2 loads dry, she will collect them later today hopefully her new machine will be delivered on Thursday.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning everyone.
Still pitch black outside but the rain is bouncing against the windows again. I'm under the duvet and reluctant to move.
Yesterday was mostly about the funeral and reflecting on such a young life gone. It seems that young men are especially at risk of feelings of helplessness and hopelessness without being able to talk about it. So very sad.
Today I'm going back to 'work', two hours in a lovely little coastal town with six older folk. Food will be from the freezer again as I'm going down to Glasgow either later today or tomorrow morning. I've got a load of postponed jobs to pick up and sort out for my mum.
I hope everyone has a good Wednesday.0 -
Morning All
Very rough out there, the wind kept waking me up! It stopped raining last night so I went for a walk. Got all wrapped up and the temperature seemed to shoot up, I was boiling! Walked past the bottle bank so got rid of a load of glass and ended up walking for 50 minutes. I'm going to try to go again this evening, weather permitting.
Lainey - So pleased you will be getting your boy home, hope the treatment works for him.
HH - Surely your visitors will just be grateful for somewhere to stay?
Got some more pressies wrapped yesterday, gradually getting through them, only a couple of bits to get now. I've started to write my food shopping list for the festive season although I have been buying extra over the past few weeks so shouldn't be too bad but I will have a lot of visitors!
Hope the weather isn't too bad where you are, take care. XX0 -

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,

In my calendar – Father Christmas :rudolf:

Gers That's so sad xx
candlelight Some of the songs used to be different but I've had a few requests over the years so I refined the listI keep a list of the carols on my laptop and recycle them each year, lol. I do this because some people aren't here anymore so I keep it the same for them. Some people are still here so I made sure their songs are included. I did have a couple of polite requests a few years ago – NO CLIFF RICHARD :rotfl:
Though I quite like Mistletoe And Wine. You can all stop laughing now
Lainey That's great news! So pleased he'll be OK xx
redruby I sing them out loud, then the song sticks in my head for the rest of the day and I keep finding myself singing it
Lacy died during the night. She was in a nesting box and had died during her sleep, which I'm grateful for. She looked so peaceful.
I've been lucky-dipping colours for my blanket, I was hoping it'd look a bit mad but it was too much so I've unravelled some of it and will choose slightly calmer colours
My last huge grocery shop is arriving later this morning. I've stocked up well on a lot of things, even more than I'd planned because a lot of the toiletries have been on offer. So I've saved quite a bit. My points have really mounted up, plus there's that £25 voucher. My shopping lists will be very short in the new year so I'm going to be very careful and make those points work hard and last as long as possible
Our walk lasted for an hour and a quarter yesterday, it was too long! Scampi is doing really well so I thought a longer walk was in order. When something he hates comes towards him, he trembles slightly (not from nerves, it's slightly different - behaviourist said it's him trying to control himself) then looks at me, I say he's doing well, what a good boy, etc. then we carry on as normal. It seems he can't manage for more than about 45 mins so we'll go back to that for a whileI'll make sure we're back before the shopping arrives then I'll spend quite a bit of time finding cupboard space for it all, lol. After lunch I need to damp dust upstairs and sort my wardrobe, it's a bit untidy. Crochet later on this afternoon.

In my advent calendar today? Another blob, think I have a dodgy calendar. Tastes good though
Off to work , it's particularly stressful at the moment , the atmosphere is awful , all down to 2 new managers who don't care who they trample on to get where they want
think I've done all of my Xmas shopping now and most of it is wrapped , I need to concentrate on a meal plan now for the festive holiday I have people here Xmas day , Boxing Day , Sunday and Monday so need to get prepared
Right then need some breakfast then I'm off to work. Have a good day everyone xx0 -
Good morning all, thank you nmic for starting us off. I hope they find out soon what is wrong with DS. Stress can manifest itself in so many ways.
Tru thank you for the carol, absolutely lovely and I am sorry you lost Lacy, but as I understand these things can happen quite quickly. She must have had a good life with you. I don't envy you putting your big shop away, but it will be very satisfying when yiu can see you have all the essentials. My freezer will be empty tomorrow so I will be able to defrost and clean it I don't seem to have as many peas in the bottom as I usually do:)
I have my retinal screening this afternoon. I have this every year because I am diabetic, but the drops sting like mad when they are first go into your eye, never mind I am very lucky we have this facility on the NHS.
Hester you are so kind bearing in mind what you have had to cope with recently. They should be very grateful you have offered them a bed and they don't have the expense of a hotel.
Have a good day all

Morning everyone,
What a difference a day makes, woke up feeling refreshed and rested this morning despite the ahem large glass of wine last night, thank you all again for all the good wishes, what a supportive little community I am lucky to be part of :j
Mild out there and luckily the wind has died down. Am off out this morning to the opticians to pick up my glasses, also want to pop into the fishmongers in town to get some bits for the freezer, aiming to have enough meals in there to last until Xmas Eve and then that will leave room for some post Xmas bargains. Will make the long months of January last longer!
Will be off to bring Bill home after 2, am at the mercy of my yard pals who are lucky enough to have their own transport, again am very lucky to have such good friends.
RR. - hope you have a fab time in Venice
Tru. -sorry to hear about Lacy but glad it was peaceful for her
[Gers - always seems such a waste for someone so young to die, his poor family.
Hope everyone has a good day xx0
