I said from day one I would never trust any of my data to the Cloud. Nothing is secure from hackers but I think I stand a better chance of keeping my data secure by backing up offline.... Depends on the infrastructure and company
If you use the Free services like Mega/Dropbox for anything important, then you're just asking to get hacked
I've mentioned my fave Cloud storage provider every time something like this is mentioned.
I've used SpiderOak for years. they don't have a free service anymore. But they start at :
30Gb for $7 monthly (around £4.70 month)
1Tb for $12 monthly (around £7.95 month)
5Tb for $25 monthly (around £16.50 month)
it's slow to upload since it encrypts everything before sending. has file revision history function
And one great thing security wise :
Only you have the password. The company doesn't know it and they can't access any of your data.
Oh and the article is out of date! Amazon dropped the "Free 5Gb" option months agoLaters

What are clouds made of but water vapour.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0

Never forget that "the cloud" is just a fancy way of saying "somebody else's computer".
"I'm storing all my important data on somebody else's computer" doesn't sound so safe when you word it like that. It's even worse when you don't even know where that computer is - who's laws are the owners subject to? Is there anything you can do if they lose all your data?If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

Personally, I only use cloud storage for anything I may want to access via another machine in another location and not for backup.
All of the cloud storage suppliers I use have a paid for model.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Dropbox is only free for a small amount of space. The main business is from the paid for storage. So, your comparison is flawed.

That's why I have loads of storage and a free Dynamic DNS address. I've started to use that instead of SpiderOak latelyLaters

I've always been happy with SugarSync.
When they re-vamped all their plans storage went up for many at no extra cost.
Anything very sensitive I don't upload however.0
