Is there a website which will help me decide what spec PC/laptop I need before looking on retail websites?

I am intending to buy a laptop for my 13yr old daughter to do homework/light surfing and a PC for my son to do gaming/homework on.

Many thanks

I don't think that any site can make an educated guess based on these vague requirements.

Thankyou - I wasn't asking on here for recommendations, or would have put more info. Just wondered if anything existed.

  • Practically anything (including a £20 raspberry pi) will do light surfing and run Libreoffice Writer, Calc and Present for doing homework.

The gaming requirements will vary widely.

There is and it's called Google homepage however people here could help you if you gave us some kind of idea how much you want to spend on each item i.e. the laptop and desktop. We could then suggest some potential buys that may fit your needs.

    I've got the MSI CX61 - 2PF.

It's not a bad machine. Nice bright screen much better than the HP I had for a few months and couldn't get on with.

Surely something like this would do the job re: laptop?
    http://www.ebuyer.com/711741-acer-aspire-es1-331-laptop-nx-g13ek-003 £181

If you are happy with an 11.6'' screen for your daughter then even the £110 laptop (after £20 cashback) would cope with internet and homework.

well there is no specific website that i know of, but if you post your budget and a bit more detail on what you actually after we can try and advise (as above)

but as stated already for basic browsing and little office work, pretty much any laptop will do, a gaming pc is a lot more specific and will be more expensive - this being said it can be built to a budget if you are willing to compromise in certain areas.
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
