euro to sterling, best way ?

Hi, having sold small house in France i now need to transfer euro's from my French bank to my UK bank. Does anyone know the cheapest option please ?

However, as its probably a reasonable sum of money don't forget to ask banks etc - they will probably offer you a better exchange rate than they advertise to the general public.

Cheapest and safest way to transfer your money would be to do a bank transfer using BIC + IBAN in Euros with Shared costs (Frais partagés). The cost will be identical to that charged for a domestic transfer to a French bank so quite cheap. No hidden costs on the UK side and usually a very good exchange rate too. BIC + IBAN details are listed on all UK bank statements. Note that this only applies to amounts up to €50,000. You might need to split a larger total into smaller amounts below the €50k threshold.

It might also pay to leave some spending money in Euros for future European holidays...
