Shower enclosure not advertised size, ?rights

I was wondering if anyone could help and sorry in advance for length of this post. I recently bought a shower enclosure from a large online company. It is advertised as 760x900mm though in the technical description it states the side panel can extend from 720-750mm. Our plumber drilled holes in our new tiles to fit this and needed it to extend to 745mm but in fact it only extends from 695-725mm. Now this is where its a bit complicated, when we looked back we realised the instructions say that you should start fitting 30mm from end of shower tray however we only brought it in 15mm but it should still have easily fitted if it was the size in description. My question is, considering that we have begun to install and not followed the instructions exactly what are our rights as that would all be irrelevant had it been as advertised. Effectively following the instructions only gives you a 730x870mm shower enclosure Thank you in advance for any advice.

You seem to be saying that if you had followed the instructions exactly it would've fitted.
    Is that right?

What exact model did you buy?
    Who did you buy from?
How did you pay? Debit or credit card?

Your rights are with the installer in this case. The instructions are clear and it is for a competent person to fit it according to the instructions.

If the installer has messed this up then they are to blame, if you instructed the installer to do it your way then you are to blame.

Did you actually read all of the opening post?
The size range that the description states that side panel can be adjusted through is greater than the actual adjustment that can be obtained.
Even though the holes may have been drilled in a different position to that stated in the fitting instructions, if the unit was as described, it wouldn't have mattered.

Any competent fitter would have read the instructions and measured the enclosure BEFORE drilling holes.

OP, your rights are for an exchange for the correct size enclosure as advertised. Any claim for holes drilled in the wrong places lies with the fitter.

If you move it back 30mm from end of tray, does it then comply with stated - extend to 750mm on shower tray?

  • Provided that the tiles aren't some weird and wonderful colour, it should be possible to fill the holes and get some grout colour matched to the tiles which would make the repairs fairly innocuous. (speaking from experience due to having had to do this after replacing a couple of towel holders).
