Thank you so much for all your responses. I think were gonna put off moving for at least a year and spend a long while finding what we want and not rush. Thanks again!

Avoid Ashford Market at weekends as there is a distinct whiff of urine , usually from the continental lorry drivers who park up around the back streets... I live about 8 miles away and My father in law can remember Ashford when it was a village and a nice place.

Now its a bit of a sh*thole , lots of housebuilding going on and nearly all of it is on the flood plane, lots of chavs and the market on Saturdays you can find plenty of immigrants selling fake ciggies and booze. Decent tool shop though..

Move there if you're desperate or move to a village/town at least 10 miles away because anywhere within 5 miles of Ashford will soon be swallowed up.

Running Horses why is it called Trashford then? I understand teens get bored but that happens up and down the country. Where I grew up in central east London teenagers were also getting bored. And robbing and stabbing each other. I keep seeing all this talk about chavs but if its just bored teens messing about (granted a nuisance in itself) it'll still be the peace and quiet we are looking for. I don't really know the areas or where Stanhope isn't too far from Kingsnorth where we were looking, are there any areas you recommend?

I did a small job on the Stanhope a few years ago and spent most of my time keeping an eye on my van to make sure it still had 4 wheels...... Closest place I can liken it to back then was Beirut but Beirut hedged it as it had more cars complete with wheels but that was a few years ago I worked there.

It was a drug dealing centre home to a few decent people but mosty theiving scumbags. Apparently back in the 1970's it was a decent place to live ..

We lived in Ashford for 8 years before moving back to West Malling to be closer to family after having kids.

    The good points.
You get lots of house for your money.
Plenty of modern houses to choose from.

    The bad points
The town centre isn't the best. I don't just mean it being a bit rough because most town centres are. I mean on a Saturday night the place is dead. I have no idea where people who live in Ashford go out but its not in the town.

J10 to J8 is the longest piece of motorway ever! Operation stack makes it worse.

Don't listen to stories about Stanhope. I agree its rough but the new housing estates are well away from there.

The more expensive area is orchard heights off of junction 9 and the cheaper estate over at juction 10 and park farm. The park farm estate has been there years and I think was the first built.
