Surveyors and RICS status !!

Iam calling around for quotes for a full building survey for a 100 years old house iam buying and noted on RICS website that some surveyors are members, some are associates and there is another category I can't remember now...what is the difference? And whom should I instruct for peace of mind...as usual advice is much appreciated

There are three levels of Membership.

AssocRICS is someone that has applied to the RICS for full membership and is undergoing a period of experience and / or assessment. Many of them will have considerable experience, but not formalised or be a member of another comparable professional body such as the Chartered Institute of Building. They will be competent in their own right

MRICS (Member status) is someone that has fulfilled an agreed level of competence and experience.

FRICS (Fellow Status) is someone who has held Member status for at least 10 years.

Surveying companies will employ AssocRICS, MRICS and FRICS surveyors. All have a level of competency and abide by regulations of the RICS and hold Professional Indemnity Insurance.

Please note I have amended my original post as I was giving incorrect information. AssocRICS are NOT trainees.
