Is there not a basic thermostat or a control knob on the front the boiler to allow you to change settings?0

A back boiler suggests it is behind a gas fire. Sometimes the controls are behind a door below the gas fire. These doors generally drop down to reveal the controls.

A"scolding" boiler hey?
Nothing worse than a boiler that tells you off when you're simply trying to wash your dishes or take a shower. I hope you've given it a good tongue lashing back!
