Ikea won't let me return a mattress

A fortnight ago I bought an IKEA Hesseng mattress on finance for £700, the mattress was too firm so we exchanged it within two days for the IKEA Hesseng in Medium/firm but now, a week later, my partner who has a spinal condition is in absolute agony trying to sleep on this new mattress. The store has refused to allow us to return the mattress so we are left paying off a £700 mattress (with interest) for the next three years that we cannot sleep on. Is there anything whatsoever I can do to make them return it?

Thank you in advance for any advice x

Do you have any paperwork that has terms and conditions attached to it?

If they have already exchanged once I can't see them doing it again.

As an aside, if you are buying a mattress for someone with a spinal condition, I would have thought that getting specialist advice on what type of mattress/where to buy would be beneficial when spending so much money, rather than buying 'blind' as such - just a thought for future.

Ikea lets you return a mattress once if it's not suitable. You can't keep on returning them until you find one that you like.
  • We looked online and researched it and this mattress was voted one of the Which best buys of the year, we thought it was the best option within our limited price bracket.

As it is new, could you sell it on? At least you'll get some of your money back.

I'm curious if they resell these returned mattresses?

I don't understand why you'd think you can sleep on a mattress for a week then exchange it for another one? Perhaps get a topper for it, I have a John Lewis topper on my bed and it's very comfortable.

My daughter also has spinal issues and has been sleeping in with me for the past 3 weeks following spinal surgery and finds the topper very good to sleep on.

"You may exchange your mattress once within 90 days if you don’t love it, provided that it is not dirty, marked or damaged."

I presume they are not reselling the returns "as new" but I don't know and am also slightly curious.

I understand that a different supplier (not Ikea) returned them to the supplier, where they were sold to hotels... After all, their mattresses can only be new for a single customer.
