PC monitor help - what to look for

  • 4k resolution? On a 24" monitor?! You'd need a magnifying glass to read anything. Read the comments on that HotDealsUK offer they know what they're talking about. You'd have to lower the resolution or scale the text and if you can't run a TFT monitor at its native resolution whats the point?!

1080p up to 28" at least, I have a 34" 1440p 21:9 monitor and there is no way I'd want any higher resolution on that. Movies, gaming, maybe but text, office work, no way.

    Another vote for 1920x1200.

We had those at work (programming) and I got a 24" Dell a few years ago for my main monitor at home and love it. The extra vertical space really makes a difference.

THIS may be of help in deciding on 4K. I'm loving 2560 x 1440 and have not found the problems that I was told existed reference text size etc a problem.
Any scaling of text doesn't alter photo or video resolution.

Thanks everyone, I think now I'm going to go for 2 x flat monitors on a mount, size 23-25" each. I'll be using my laptop in clamshell mode, and these are the ports it has, one monitor I'll use HDMI, but what one for the 2nd monitor please?
    1 USB 3.0
    • 2 USB 2.0
    • 1 VGA
    • 1 HDMI
    • 1 headphone/microphone combo jack
    • 1 AC power
    • 1 RJ-45
    • 1 multi-format digital media reader

    Thanks again everyone

    How does this monitor look?

Interested as it has frameless design, but couldn't see anywhere if it had VESA mount?

a second port option on a laptop doesn't mean you can use two screens and virtual desktops simultaneously
Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand

Also, personally, I hate monitors and other devices with external power supplies.

Are you attempting to run two 24 inch monitors from a laptop ? I don't think you can configure the VGA and HDMI to be separate outputs on a laptop however I've never tried it. Even if you could that's going to be one mightily stressed lappy GPU.

Buy a desktop with a discrete graphics card would be my advice.

    Hi fightsback
Ive only just bought the laptop, and now decided to use it (if possible) as a desktop/base unit in clamshell mode (if its possible).

IF i bought a desktop, what do you mean by discrete graphics card please? And I'm assuming ideally buy a desktop with 2 x HDMI ports?
