Could there not be some arguement that you were not aware of the limit (why else woudl you exceed it on multiple days) and hope the magistrate might be sensible and give 10 points and a large fine (assuming your record to date was squeaky clean)?

No because speeding is 3-6 points for each offence. Nothing on statute to cover multiple offences carrying one penalty.

Do they automatically go to court if it would push you over the 12 point threshold?

How likely are you to not get disqualified if you can show that you rely on a vehicle for work?

12 points triggers a ban, it will be up to the driver to argue special reasons not to disqualify. It's your punishment and needs to be treated as such, so you would probably need to show other would be adversely affected by your ban.

I remember that a friend told me about this story quite a few years ago. I think it made the national press but the first link that I managed to find was for the local rag.

Caught 3 times in the same speed trap within 30 minutes after having a clean licence for 40 years.

Wouldn't you love to be in the queue of cars stuck behind her while she drove at least 10mph under the speed limit for the next few years to make sure that she didn't lose her licence.

TIC's for speeding ! Each is dealt with individually .

    Sounds about right.

One of my friends got done twice by the same camera in about half an hour, IIRC he went past it at speed, remembered he needed something, came back at speed (not caught as other side of the road), went back out at speed.
I think most of us had a quiet laugh about it when he wasn't around as he had a heavy foot, and the location he got caught at was one that had been advertised as being due to get a targeted check (as there had been a number of accidents/near misses around it).

IIRC there are some offences where they could deal with each one as an individual offence, but may not depending on the people dealing with it and how much you annoy them
I vaguely remember reading that the police/magistrates are unlikely to do you for say 2 mildly under the limit tyres and will likely do it as one offence, but if you annoy the officers enough they can write it up as two separate offences* even though they may still get dealt with as one.

*Which IIRC it is technically, as each tyre is a separate offence.

The only way out is if either of the required 2 signs indicating the change of speed limit were not in place/obscured.

One speed limit sign on it's own cannot be taken as a change in the speed limit. The Law is quite clear on this.

If the op has a good look and discovers that of the 2 signs indicationg the change in speed limit, one is obscured or not in place, then he will have a legal get-out clause.

However, I expect he will be back on here shortly asking how to keep his licence.

A family friend got caught twice in one day on the same speed camera. It was the first day he'd driven the stretch of road since a change in speed limit.

The road had been a 40 limit for as long as I remember, then all of a sudden it was changed to a 30 Limit.
Friend was caught at 38mph and 39mph a couple of hours apart.

The law is also quite clear that the presence of a system of street lighting signifies a 30 mph limit. Any defiiciency in the terminal signs may help your defence if you have recently entered the restricted road, but not otherwise.

Only if they are less than 183m apart (200yds). That rule always tickles me. Like that can be judged to that accuracy when driving at 30mph (or ever faster). Maybe we should carry a surveyors wheel at all times ...
