The unsuspecting fitter was the OP, I doubt he had any air tools0 -
Sounds like the unthreaded part have been forced into the threads damaging the threads on both the bolts and the hub, having said that. Undoing the bolts will have cleaned the hub threads to a degree but your bolts will be a bit of a mess. If the threads have been damaged a new hub will be necessary.0

If the threads have been damaged then recutting will end up with a weaker bolt.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Having damaged the threads on the bolts is there also damage in the hub?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

As stated Re-cutting the thread is unwise as the only realistic way to do this safely.
S/H Hub about £40 plus about an hours labour ? £120?0 -
Sorry meant to say only safe way is go up a size of bolt and that won't work in terms of wheels etc.0

To give you all an update ...
Its fixed now and my silly mistake cost me around £180. My mechanic was able to rethread the hub. He said the damage to the hub was not that much. The bolts however were ruined and had to replace the alloy bolts, spare wheel bolts and get a new locking bolts set. With all these + labour + VAT it mounted up to around £180. A very expensive mistake if you ask me.
I have always been a fan of merc for taking the time to think about small things in their cars but this one seems like a bad design/cost cutting decision. I know its for me to read the manual before doing things etc and I should have known about it but guess what I asked a couple of friends and colleagues and no one had the slightest idea that you might have to use differnt kind of bolts for the spare wheel.
