Annulment in the Catholic Church

I got married on the 1st of July 2006. My husband has turned into a monster. He has a drink and alcohol problem and gets abusive. He's never hit me but he shouts and swears in fron our two kids, pushes me around and threatens to kill me or take the kids back to his country where I can't fine them.
He works and does give me a penny for the kids or bills. I'm on maternity leave and struggling.
I have recently found out he has been having an affair with his ex that he has a child with and that was the last straw I threw him out.
Can I get the marriage annulled of is it too late?
We got married in a catholic church. He told me he's been seeing this girl since before we got married and never ment any of his vows, He just needed somewhere to stay.
Help I need him out my life.

get out now and go see a solicitor. the next stage will be to hit you. i do think annulment is possible but you have excellent grounds for divorce and for him to have to pay you0

I know I can get a divorce but being a Roman catholic it would be better for me to get an anulment because the catholic church recognises that.
Thank you0 -
I'm sure you can get a papal annulment because of the fact that he was unfaithful before you married and says that he did not take his vows seriously. You need to go and speak to your parish priest who will be able to help you.
I hope things go ok for you :grouphug:We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

I think the section you need is1 On what grounds does the Church declare nullity for some failed marriages?
In technical language, the most common reasons are insufficiency or inadequacy of judgment (also known as lack of due discretion, due to some factor such as young age, pressure to marry in haste, etc.), psychological incapacity, and absence of a proper intention to have children, be faithful, or remain together until death.0 -
As I understand it anullment and divorce are two seperate things. You would need to get a divorce to dissolve the marriage legally, and then apply for an annullment to get it dissolved in religious terms. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0

Pboe, thats my understanding too.
the divorce is the legal seperation whereas the annullment is a spiritual one? is this correct? I do not know a great deal about the Catholic Church Im afraid.
As Tbeckett says, seeing a solicitor is paramount - preserving your safety is paramount too. I suggest, without delay, calling your local police and speaking to a Domestic Violence Officer. they can take steps to ensuire your safety in the interim , for example, alarms, doors, nad they carry the cost. and so forth. At the least, alert them to the potential danger you might be in.
Please keep safe ,

x:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Hi
Ah yes, but have you thought of the impact of an annulment on your children. In the eyes of the catholic church they would then be illegitimate. My dad and mum were married for 20 years, but my dad after the divorce wanted to marry a catholic woman - they got a papal annulment of my mum and dad's marriage which makes me illegitimate in the eyes of the catholic church - I'm not catholic, but tbh it upset me. What a farce just because they married in a register office after 20 years it could be annuled!!0
