It sounds like your error was to be too trusting of that person and made wrong decisions, the main one being to agree to add your name to the bills when you knew there were arrears.
As you've said, take it as a lesson learnt. Friends are friends, but when it comes to money, it is always safer to remember that friendship is not marriage and no such case of what is mine is yours and what's yours is mine.0 -

That was the problem. As I mentioned, they wouldn't discuss the balance as my name wasn't on it yet. Once my name was added that's how I knew how bad it was.
As for that friend, I haven't spoken to her since I left, and I don't intend to again.0
