Problem with my slow cooker

Hi all,
I love using my slow cooker but I find that all the different dishes I cook all tastes the same. I scrub the bowl (or whatever the inside is called) after every use but maybe I'm doing it wrong? Any hints and tips gratefully received as I made some pea and ham soup in it today and it tastes like bolognese sauce - it's hideous! I don't like wasting food, but this soup is inedible and I don't want to make more mistakes. Help please!

A simple solution would be to use liners. You can pick them up on ebay or amazon, although I've also heard some people using roasting bags.
I struggled to keep my ceramic slow cooker clean, so when it broke I moved on to a sear and stew which has a lightweight non stick pot and it much easier to clean.Shrinking my mortgage!

I've used the same one for years and never had a problem.. maybe its glaze is rubbish so the flavours are soaking into the porous pot.. i'd try a new one .. SC or just the pot.
Mine is soaked and run through the dishwasher regularly..
Which one do you have? It may be others have had the same issue with that brand.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I do all sorts of different dishes in my slow cooker and they all come out tasting like they should do.
I've not had an issue keeping it clean either, I just stand the ceramic pot in the sink and fill the pot up with hot soapy water & leave to stand.
My instruction leaflet says not to stand in water, I think that means the outside of the pot so don't put water in the sink.0 -
my ceramic pot is glazed inside and out - it just goes through the dishwasher and we have no issues with taste transferI’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

I have a glazed pot and sometimes find it smells of what was cooked even after washing it. I use a bit of vinegar on a sponge scourer (the white non scratch kind) to wipe away the smell and then rinse.Still virtually alcohol free since 4/1/15. (10 Xmas/ New Year/Birthday drinks)

I soak mine with a few drops of Dr Bonners, rinse with water as hot as I can stand and dry straight away.
I cook curries a lot in mine too which can be a pain for residual taste."We always find something, hey Didi, to give us the impression we exist?" Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I suspect the glaze on the inside is knackered... It was just a cheap slow cooker so I think I'll look out for another one in the various sales - once I've found a new job.0

I had the same problem with a slow cooker that had a ceramic dish everything seemed to have a funny taste and in the end I gave up and binned it. Last year I decided to give slow cookers another try and bought one with a metal dish that you can use on the hob to sear meat first and I absolutely love it, no funny taste at all, the model I have is a Morphy Richards Sear & Stew.Worrying won't stop bad stuff from happening, it just stops you from enjoying the good.0
