Please help me- Argos

So I ordered some furniture with argos 2 days ago and they have charged me for 4 lots of that order taking nearly all my money apart from around 20 pound out my bank account. These transactions are in my pending transactions on my online banking. I rang argos numerous times being on hold for a good 40 minutes each time, having the phone put down on me, eventually I contacted someone from argos who informed me I would have to ring my bank as it is there issue. I rang the bank who gave me a fax number and details Argos who have to fax over in order to cancel the transactions. On hold another 2 hours I spoke to someone and her manager who said she was sorting it with the bank as we spoke,so I rang my bank back....nothing. they haven't received any fax. Again I proceed to ring Argos ask for that specific manager and get the response of "there is no one who works here under that name" so again I dance around the houses where the explain there's nothing they can particularly do, they won't put me through there a manager and put the phone down. I am only young and I can't afford to live, eat and go to work and pay bills. I feel like I'm going out of my mind. I have never been so stressed in all my life.

If you've to speak to them again, makes sure you get te full name and dept of the person you speak to.

Ask for the name of the store manager, get them to spell the name.

Why not ring your bank and ask for a temporary overdraft (surely, if they can see the 4 amounts 'pending' which are the same they will realise there is a problem) just in case Argos DO claim it all. There's a chance that they won't.

Keep a track of calls made in case you need to send a letter Before Action (down the line) and want to claim your expenses.

How did you pay? By debit card?

There's a chance that this is a glitch (black Friday) and the 4 payments won't leave your account.

And, as Hollydays says - write down names of people you speak to, also time of call and a summary of what was said...

There was a global issue with card payments on Friday for retailers using Streamline to accept card payments. Their systems were overloaded and caused all sorts of payment issues. I don't know if Argos use Streamline but I know several retailers who were affected, it could explain why you have a problem.

This happens usually when a payment is interrupted in some way, they request the funds but don't actually take them - resulting in your bank ringfencing the amount.

They usually drop off after a few days but sometimes require the retailer to contact the bank and confirm via fax that they are not going to take those payments (this can also be used to get the funds released before the few days is up - think the timeframe is 3-5 days but might be slightly off on that) at which time the bank can release them back to the account holder.

Try emailing argos making them aware they are in breach and that you will be claiming any additional costs incurred due to their breach and also that they can limit their liability by ensuring that the funds are released back to you without delay.
