Windows 10. Disk Running at 100%

Hi,

My Sons PC is running at 100% on the hard drive. if I log in as admin its much better, but still a little laggy at times.

I have tried

Running virus scans
Increasing virtual memory
Running hard disk scan

Computer is a Windows 10, 8GB, 750TI, A6 processor.

Anyone any other ideas?

Thanks

BArry

What do you mean? Do you mean that the hard drive is showing activity 100% of the time, or that the processor usage goes to 100% AND the hard drive is active...?

Does anything show up in Task Manager? Do you have any scheduled tasks (such as drive defragmentation) running?
  • Hi,

I reset the PC and everything's working again...Until I ran an update on Defender and it jammed and its back to the way it was.

I suspected something to do with Security Essentials, as the task was jumping about. CPU was zero, but disk was always showing at 100%.

Will disable Defender and install something else

    Thanks

is eating your HDD cycles, HDD cycles are almost always 'superfetch' or 'defender' etc. Open the windows settings app

and one by one decide what is causing you the problem, you could switch them all off, then switch on one at at a time till you find the offender - REM to reboot after turning an app off. Do not ignore the 'skype' pig and other applications.
