New car mpg

    Our new car had book figures of 65mpg and we rarely get over 40...

    Was that the official overall figure?

    Or the figure for Urban usage?

  • You need to factor other costs, if the new diesel has a DPF , they go wrong often and cost, sometimes a yearly bill of £1500.
    Average DMF life span before its another £1500 pay out time.

    MPG is not the only cost, that and EU legalisation is on he table to ban all diesels from all cities and if it makes it, the car will be useless if you have to pass through any kind of city.

    On a lease car? Unlikely that those costs will feature if you read the OP.

    And it's 'legislation'. Again.

    Some diesels have an electric heating element built into the heater to get round this problem.

    The worst diesels for poor heater performance were the early direct injected diesels.

    Can't say warm up has been notably bad on any of the diesels I have owned over the last 10 years or so.

    Though the heater in the petrol Berlingo really does get toasty quickly.

    I do remember my first direct injected diesel. Seat Toledo 1.9tdi, that would take 10/15 mins to get warm enough to provide any heat.

    that is his standard reply to everybody that shows an interest in purchasing a diesel car
