Indeed, seems the problem here is that the OP apparently has no concept of the work involved - you don't just dig up two kerbstones and drop some lower ones in.....0 -

and that is exactly what would happen in the case above if no action was taken to strengthen the box the first thing bigger than a standard car to drive over the lid and it would break and fall into the box
