Connecting Record Player to Micro Hi Fi system.

Hello all,
I am considering buying a record player, so I can re-visit collection of vinyl that is gathering dust - I may also sell some of them so be good to play-test them first.
Have a <few years old > Philips Micro system, so ideally I would connect record player into that and use its speakers.
Had a look for connections and there is a USB connection on front and an AUX-IN on back.
Would it be as simple as just using cable between record player and AUX-IN ?
The user manual mentions using a " cinch cable " - don't think I have heard of that before...
Thanks

no you'll probably need a pre-amp in the middle to boost the signal from the record deck, it depends what type of turntable you buyDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0

Cinch is an American term for a phono plug.

You'll need a turntable with a built-in preamplifier and a line level output egA kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Here's my thread asking about the same thing, I haven't had time to follow up yet so I can't give you a pre-amp recommendation yet.

Thanks Owain
I just found an unopened pack of those very cables in the drawer where my cds are stashed
That turntable looks ok for the money, and I know there is a Richer Sounds in Plymouth which is only about 20 miles away, so that could be ideal
