Another way of the Jobcentre to sanction you!

HI all, i went to Remploy the other day. The advisor there has warned me of this...

The Jobcentre actually calls you on your mobile. and if you don't pick it up the first time, you get a sanction!
This has actually happened to someone who went to remploy, like i do.

I think its disgusting! Say what if you're at an interview or maybe even on the toilet or no reception. blooming ridiculous!! who else has come across this i wonder? Thought i better warn people on here you never know.

  • Thats what i thought, but you never know with them these days!
they try anything ! cannot be too careful. and they should have your phone number as you gotta give it to them when you apply for Jsa and when you give them your CV.
They actually sanctioned me once as apparently i didnt apply for a certain job and i did, only the employer had changed the way of application to the job which counted as non applying .
  • ludicrous, I suppose you believe elvis is alive as well

Sometimes not nice things need to be said.

In fairness but if you heard this from a third party then it *might* be a bit of an exaggeration (maybe they try 2-3 times a day?). That aside, on the face of it what you describe is ludicrous but.....

..... it is also ludicrous if someone is sitting around on JSA for the long term. I used JSA for about 2 months in between jobs and they never once tried anything dodgy with me. I'd turn up every week with a folder (yes a folder!!) full of my job applications/proof. The person would tick me off and I'd be on my way.

A mate of mine, whom was a bit more picky with his jobs, also didn't get hassled but was put onto some work training courses etc. They never sanctioned him but he was only on for about 5 months.

I don't know about you but there is about a 5% chance (maybe less) that I would be unable to answer a phone call if I was out of work and seeking a new job. I just can't fathom why someone would be very unlikely to answer their phone to a recruiter!

Welcome to the forums, anonymity makes people brave and rude, i think keyboard warrior is the term used.

Anyway, on topic, if they miss a call, call them back. Once upon a time when I was an ebil employment adviser, I found that 90% of clients didnt bother answer their phone, especially if they knew who it was.

Though i doubt what you have been told is true, I could see why the JCP would become harsher on people who didn't pick up their phones. Say for example, 3 strikes or something like that.

But anywho, I'm out of the welfare to work game, I wish you the best of luck in finding work.

and they should have your phone number as you gotta give it to them when you apply for Jsa and when you give them your CV.

There is no legal requirement to provide a phone number or CV when claiming JSA. As you are unemployed, it would wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that you have had to make cutbacks in expenditure and dump the phone.

You can be mandated to create a CV (which is not unreasonable) and would need to produce it as evidence that you have complied. Handing over a copy for them to keep is another matter.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.
  • The only thing they can do is request your phone number if you dont pick up. They give you two or three rings in one day and if you dont answer, theyll ask for the correct number. Theyll usually leave the calls a hour apart.

They will only try to call once every month just to check you are answering your phone as some people just ignore the phone when potential employers call to arrange interviews etc.
