Barclays ppi

Hi there- I would dearly appreciate any assistance with my query.
I have had a Barclays current account for over 40years & due to present financial diificulties I was wondering whether I can claim back ppi & service charge fees.
I was diagnosed with cancer in 2005 & was unable to work (I am fine now &working) I did contact Barclays & informed them by telephone & was told there was nothing they could do & I did not pursue this,
Now I am really struggling & have been sorting out my finances,
I owe Barclays £900 & try each month to make payments but this is gobbled up with overdraft fees/account fees & ppi which is only a mere 80p per month.
After listening to Martin & reading posts & winning the 10year battle with Lowell's thanks to the wonderful Howlett's solicitors- I am feeling brave.
Thank you so much

You need to put in a financial hardship claim to the bank to help with the fees (they may be able to freeze interest or suspend future charges so long as you are in hardship i.e. you are not spending on meals out, sky tv, expensive mobile contracts etc) and put in a claim on the PPI for help making the payments. If you had PPI back in 2005 you should have claimed on that and a retrospective claim might pay out. If they way it would not have covered you that seems like a reasonable reason for complaint.

I am not sure what you mean about service charge fees - if you were paying for a packaged account and feel it was miss-sold, follow the guide on this site. If you mean charges for late payments etc then no, the banks won the case at the supreme court on these fees

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
