Paying off overseas CC

in Credit cards
Hi,
I hope this is the right thread to post this question.
I am currently in the process of moving to the UK from the Republic of Ireland. I have several debts in Ireland, including a couple of credit cards and a loan, that I regularly pay by direct debit every month. I can't get a credit card or cards in the UK just yet as I have no credit history here (already been turned down for a mobile phone on that basis) so can't just do a balance transfer and would like to avoid any international payment surcharges by setting up a direct debit here to pay the debts there, if that's even possible. I will also likely need to pay a reduced amount for the foreseeable future as my wife and I are splitting up and I now need to finance two homes.
Does anyone have any idea how I might proceed with this or has anyone any experience of arranging cross border debt repayements? I don't really know how to proceed or appraoch the institutions concerned so any advice would be most appreciated.
Cheers,
Findle.

The laws relating to debt / bankruptcy etc are very different in the Irish Republic to those of England so I would suggest you go to an Irish website rather than asking here.
My understanding, although I may well be incorrect, is that ignoring a court in Ireland can land you in jail whereas in the UK you merely get a CCJ.
As far as actually paying money to your Irish creditors its simply a matter of changing UK pounds to euros.. at a cost of course. Presumably you can keep an Irish bank account and transfer money from UK to Irish a/c and then to your creditors using whatever method you use at the moment.0
