Hi you say getting the last address is easy . on Bova vista it only says Town and date at death
How can i get my cousins last know address ? without paying ?

Find a will or probate (England and Wales)
    https://www.gov.uk/search-will-probate

    Does that help?

If you believe you know the name of the individual, what you really want to know is who is dealing with the estate.

No heir hunter is going to accept such a ludicrously low fee as 1%.

    Oops, I agree........got a zero missing!

OP, do you actually know anything about this relative before signing away 20%? See if the suggestions in the link might give you a starting point. No need to dive in headlong, seems like you've got at least 12 years to research! Can even negotiate with your own chosen firm of geneologists/heir hunters if you choose to.

The problem here is that you don't know how many other heirs there are.

If you want to take over administering the estate, you will have to find every other beneficiary so that you can share out any money as set out by the law.

You won't be able to do that for free.

The whole process is nothing like as easy as the heir hunters make it appear on TV. Paying 20% really is likely to be a very reasonable deal. Without the skill and expertise of the heir hunters you could easily spend a lot of money and still not be able to find the solution. Nevertheless there is no reason you should not negotiate with the firm to get a lower rate.

I find it interesting that 20% of an unknown sum is being discussed as either too high or quite a reasonable cost. Presumably the heir hunters have an average sum they want and base the 20% on the average value of an estate share, and number of beneficiaries who will sign up to their service. If the estate is a small one than 20% may be extremely reasonable. If it is a huge one 20% would be large too. Could you try negotiating a cap on their share?

20% is quite a low rate for heir hunters, many charge a lot more than that.

(I am not an heir hunter, but I know a few people who are).

Part of the research is establishing an estimate of the estate. Like is their a house.

If you can prove your relationship and enough of the others sign to make it worthwhile for the hunters you can just wait and get your share.
