taxi

Just looking for opinions on this.Paid in advance for a taxi.Taxi firm knew exactly where i was going.Agreed to take me door to door(A to B).At no point did the taxi firm tell me that they could'nt take me all the way to (B) even though they knew there was some roadworks and christmas markets etc so it is very busy.

When we get to the 'very busy' part of the journey, the driver says i have to get out and walk it the rest of the way(5-10 minutes away but only if you knew the area of which i didn't).I said i wanted to be dropped off at the door, driver refused. Not that it was impossible to drop me off at the door, just that it might have taken him an extra 10-15 minutes. It took me 25 minutes to find my destination on foot, and got absolutely drenched.

Do you think this driver/firm is out of order?I do.Do you think its a good enough excuse to say the drivers self employed and would lose possible money if he took me to a destintion the company had already been contracted to do?

You paid to get from A to B and didn't receive the correct service.. I personally would of called the taxi firm while still in the taxi, ring them and tell them you want a partial refund.

Also depends if you feel you are more vulnerable and the type of area you had to walk through.

Definitely out of order. You paid for something you didn't get. That is not on, you were dropped in an area you didn't know, disgusting. I would play merry hell with the taxi boss. demand a refund. The driver should have found a route to avoid the congestion.

  • Depending on what the taxi firm say (and depending on how you made the advance payment), it might be worth considering a credit or debit card chargeback.
If you did pay this way, getting written evidence of what happened would help with a chargeback so e-mailing the company with a complaint might get an e-mail response back.

As an ex taxi driver. i think you should go and complaain. 'Cos the driver is self-employed not sure how far it will take you with the firm. Rather than complain to the taxi firm who really couldn't care less, i'd go to your Council licencing office. They give these people a licence to work and they take complaints very seriously.

what did the company say when you complained.

Mind you I would've stayed in the cab refusing to leave, and let them call the police.
  • Was it a Taxi??? Or a private hire company? if the latter I don't think you will get very far.
Your best route is to complain to the local licensing authority.
  • Thanks everyone.I phoned the company and spoke to the manager who although appreciated my complaint, she seemed to be saying it was ok that the driver did what he did, saying "he's self employed and he and the company need to make money"and not spend time in traffic jams.I got the impression that she was saying "how dare you complain about this. She seemed to think i should be more bothered about her companies profits more than my inconvenience:mad:I was fuming with her attitude. She even said that this chat on the phone was costing the company money as it was stopping her answering calls for taxis:o.It went on for a while but when my backs up i won't give up.I eventually got a credit for the amount i paid.

You paid the taxi company in advance, if the driver had an issue with the amount paid its between him/her and the taxi company.

As you paid for travel between two destinations they should have been given it.

Would a bus drop people off several stops before their destination because the vehicle was stuck in unexpected traffic? Of course not.

It's not the taxi drivers fault, but it is the risk they take.
