Quote varies according to which cash back site you visit via ?

Has anybody else experienced their car insurance quote being different according to which cash back site they went via. E.g. I clicked on AA via topcashback and got one quote and then cleared my cache and clicked on AA via getpoundsback and got a cheaper quote (by about £11). I'm sure I filled in exactly the same details each time. Is this normal or must I have inadvertently changed something ?

Quotes for the same product will vary via different distribution channels.

Just in the way a tin of beans varies at the different supermarkets.

Insurance companies pay commission to intermediaries (eg price comparison sites, cash back sites). Obviously the price of buying through a particular intermediary depends at least in part on the commission that the insurer is paying. Cashback sites use (part of) their commission to fund the cashback.

Unfortunately this is becoming more common. Some cashback deals are 'fake'. If you get a cashback quote from TopCashback to one 5 letter insurer they offer you X cashback and your quote is Y. If you get a quote directly from the insurer without using a cashback site your quote is Y - X. Meaning direct is a better deal.

£300 direct with the insurer and no cashback.

    £370 with £50 cashback?

    £400 with £75 cashback?

The money has to come from somewhere. Unlikely to be from their own pockets.

I realise that the money has to come from somewhere but this is the first year that I have found this happens. I tried a further experiment and clicking through from Topcashback or Quidco both load the quote equally but clicking through from Getpoundsback does not, it gave the same quote as a comparison site. An interesting difference.
