Cancelling Sky TV - surprisingly easy!

Decided i don't watch enough tv to justify having Sky, have heard horror stories about the 'hard-sell' when trying to cancel so was all prepared to get annoyed but it went really easily...
Called the number, couple of quick automatic questions to ask what i wanted to do, straight through to an advisor who confirmed i wished to cancel so put me straight through to another one. Couple of security questions, confirmed that i wanted to cancel and wasn't interested in any offers, explained how much my last bill would be and the final date (29th December).
The advisor then told me that the equipment was mine and that i would be able to pick up plenty of freeview channels on it and that was it, job done in only a few minutes!
I was really impressed to be honest, no attempt to try to make me change my mind, i am keeping my internet and phone with them so bill has dropped by just over £40 a month, quite a big saving as i just tend to watch iPlayer anyway.
well done Sky!

I refused their first two emails offering reconnection - it was summer and we don't watch much tv. The third offer came with such a saving that it was the equivalent of having all the channels back on for £7 a month.0

We recently changed to Virgin. Called up Sky, said I wanted to cancel, they asked why, told them I was going to Virgin. They asked if I had gone as far as to instruct Virgin, and was now in contract with them, told them yes. Put straight through to someone who took me through security, said as I had instructed Virgin I didn't need to talk to retention team, and Sky would be turned off 31 days later. Had no calls, emails, or texts in the last 2 months.0

I found it surprisingly quick too. From the beginning of the call (press 1 for...) to hanging up it took less than 5 minutes! I told them simply I can't even afford a TV licence after moving to my new place, he did once try to give me an offer but that was it.
But I have had a phone call a few days before my notice period asking me if I would consider staying with Sky. But it was only one call.
I think being on Watchdog for their 'nightmare cancellations' has helped!0 -
Probably due to the monstering they received on Watchdog on how they used to handle cancellations0

Not sure Sky can win
Common wisdom on here is to tell Sky you want to cancel -to get a better offer on your services ....so if they don't try and keep you - some people won't be happy about that.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

OP suggested Sky made offers: "...confirmed that i wanted to cancel and wasn't interested in any offers..."0 -
Glad to hear these scoundrels are learning their lesson after all these years. Let's hope they keep it up. It took a lot of effort and sweat and tears from 1000s of people to achieve this.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

Try cancelling the phone and broadband.
I cancelled my TV, phone and broadband recently, they were fine with me cancelling the TV but the agent refused to let me cancel the phone and broadband, despite me saying I no longer needed it. He was so aggressive and arrogant, when I tried to answer his questions that I no longer needed them, he kept saying I don't understand and why are you being 'stand-offish'. I kept saying all I want to do is cancel.
I ended up hanging up on him, and re-dialling spoke to a woman who I informed work were sending me abroad so I no longer needed the services, just so I could cancel. Which she did.0 -
When we cancelled they phoned repeatedly for 2 weeks trying to retain us, we eventually out their number in a call blocker.0

I cancelled Sky TV in January 2015 when I realised that the TV hadn't been switched on for 2 months in the run up to Christmas!
Since then I get the twice/thrice weekly phone calls to rejoin Sky and the weekly letters telling me to "Come back to Sky". The calls are auto-barred on the phone and the envelopes and letters are really high quality paper and perfect for writing shopping lists and takeaway orders on!.The man without a signature.0
