Poor design of cat flap

Options
We have just fitted a replacement PetSafe 300 series cat flap in our conservatory - the design appears flawed in that the outside of the mechanism has a cut out - directly over the red knob - which rain will obviously enter the flap through which will leave a pool of water on the floor - could someone who has one - please confirm this ?

I thought you were meant to put flaps in areas where they would not be subject to direct rain fall.

That is totally impractical - and impossible - the old cat flap was waterproof to a fashion - at least the design was not flawed !!
I mean - why leave the cut out over the knob mechanism open to the elements ?

I've just looked online, this was the last manual catflap we had fitted. Never had any problem with rainwater getting in and the door was quite exposed. When we took it off the door when we recycled the door, the flap had a large amount of dirt and fur in it, but hardly surprising considering it had had many years of use.

I think you're worrying unnecessarily. This style of flap has been made for years.

Aim the hose at the door to test it (above the flap, so the water is falling as rain would). As Slinky says, you're probably worrying unnecessarily...

Water pours through my cat flap when it rains, and the cat never even uses it .

Tried this with a watering can and yes - water does appear on the floor - it comes through the opening above the knob !!!
  • Sounds a bit silly, but the locking part (the knob) is on the INSIDE, isn't it?
