wireless help

Options
 Hi folks,
Trying to set up wireless in the home, one laptop and one router. should be straight forward. Laptop recognises router ok (philips snk5620) but cannot get online. ADSL light on router is not lit. checked line at bt and they say should be ok for ADSL. totally confused. filters fitted on all points. Checed a few previous threads to no avail but on dial up so really slow.
Thanks in advance.

How have you connected to your ISP before? If your ADSL LED is not lit, that is where you need to start. Have you entered your ISP login details into the router?

It could be the way you explained it but the above is confusing me. BT said it 'should be ok for ADSL'?
Do you actually have broadband or using dialup as BT saying it should be ok and no ADSL light on the router makes it sound like you're not using broadband at the minute and a BT line check has told you that you could have it.

not connected via broadband but dial up. BT line check said it is ready for ADSL. moved house and have just used my old AOL log in details. Still using AOL at the other address though so would that matter?
    TIA

You router will not work until your present line has had ADSL provisioned. ADSL can't be used at more than one location as it is provisioned on the actual line.

That's your problem - you have to get your new line broadband enabled with your ISP.
