I'm trying to copy openoffice documents from 1 folder to another using the grab and drop. When I move the cursor to the destination folder, I'm getting 'move to' instead of 'copy to' Can someone please explain what I need to do to have some control over this issue. I have done copy to before, so I don't understand why it's seems to be defaulting to the move to. It seems like sometimes I get move to and other times I get copy to

    Purely a guess as I don't have Win 10 and never want it ... but perhaps holding down the Ctrl key as you drag and drop ???

    drag = move it
    copy = create a copy , in another location

    this is nothing specific to win 10

    I know it's not specific to W10, as I have done the same thing with previous versions of windows. What I don't know however is how to control windows to do 1 or the other

  • Drag using right click. Release and menu pops up to chose copy or move.... I think!

    Thank you Oblivion - your suggestion seems to work. Holding the Ctrl key makes a copy of the file :T

    either accept move to , or as suggested , right click and click copy (to memory) , open new folder , click on a blank space and say paste

    this type of file movement has been used since adam was ,,,,, or even the first version of windows

    I'm not using Windows, so I can't check... but doesn't it depend on whether you're dragging the icon to the same drive or not?

    IIRC (which maybe I don't!), dragging to a folder on the same drive results in copying, but dragging to a different drive results in moving.

    (You can see a little "+" on the icon you're dragging if the file will be copied.)

    You are not quite correct. Drag and drop to a different drive will create a copy. Drag and drop to somewhere on the same drive will perform a move.
