Currency Converter Help Please

Options
I hope this is the correct board, probably not but I wasn't sure where to put it.

I bought an item of clothing in New York in January 2004 for $45.99, can anyone help me convert this into how much I paid for it in GB Sterling. I've tried googling it and found the exchange rates at the time but I've no idea how to do this.

This is purely formy own interests.

Thank you.

You won't make a big error by using http://www.oanda.com/currency/converter/

    For more accurate result see:
    https://www.visaeurope.com/making-payments/exchange-rates
    https://www.mastercard.com/global/currencyconversion/

That said, I think the rate can vary within a day, and the transaction isn't necessarily processed the same day when you pay.

Also, most card providers charge ~3% for conversion - this has to be shown separately in your statement.

EDIT: I missed that it was 10 years ago. Give me 5 minutes...
    The above Oanda shows
    1.7855 1/1/2004,
    1.8320 15/1
    1.8163 30/1

It used to offer generating a table for a given time range, but seems to have pulled this option

If it's the actual calculation that you can't get the hang of, you simply divide the dollar price by the rate of dollars to the pound, to get the price in pounds.

So, for example, in mid-Jan 2014, courtesy of Grumblers's effortlessly efficient research we see the rate of 1.8320

So, $45.99 divided by 1.8320 gives £25.10 (to the nearest penny)

You won't get such a good deal today, the dollar is much stronger: 45.99 / 1.5032 = 30.59
