Vent - Charity Shops - Sorting by Colour not Size

It makes my blood boil as it takes ages now to find anything I want.
I know it makes the shop more boutique like but I really can't be bothered to go through the whole shop just to find my size.

Oxfam and Barnados are the main perpetrators. Some of the hospice shops do it but at least then sort by size.

What else annoys whilst trying to shop in the charity shops?

I'm with you on this one - it's a real pain. I raised it with the shop manager who said they had no choice, it was orders from above. However a few months later I notice it had gone back to being arranged by size, so I presume profits had dropped or something.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

If profits drop then maybe they will stop charging such high prices as well and go back to how they used to operate and be more buyer friendly.

So I suppose every cloud has a silver lining.

I guessed it would have something to do with the company rather than the manager because they are definitely behaving like a chain store. The other thing Barnardos seem to do is sort everything in a warehouse and have specialty shops. I don't mind this so much then at least I know where to go to find what I am after.
  • Really annoys me too.
What annoys me as well is some charity shops have also removed the sizes from the hangers so you have to find their price label for every item and see if they have written the size on it.
I really can't be bothered so I don't even look at the clothes in the shops that do that.
I'll spend my money somewhere with more consideration for their customers.

Yes I have noticed that one too. I suppose some people may buy if one or two sizes out and make it fit but I won't.

We will just all have to complain to their head office or go else-wear.

Or maybe clothing is not their main business any more?

I thought the manager in my local Oxfam had OCD or something. Seriously. I wondered why it was all colour co-ordinated.

So loads more shops do it then?

    How bizarre.
  • A charity shop I sometimes go in had a comments book. Page after page of people saying "Please bring back the sizes on hangers".
So they got rid of the comments book
  • I don't like the stuff being hung in groups of colours either but I object purely because I think it looks crap.I think the clothes look worse hung like that.It looks horrible.

Hung by colour? Where do the green and orange stripey jumpers go?

What to do if there is a third colour?

I agree it's annoying, but I ignore the whites/creams section as I find these colours make me look ill.

Now I double check the sizes on the hanger, shop tag and clothing label as they put the wrong size.

Don't get me started with Oxfam and Sue Ryder shops charging ott prices in posh towns like Harrogate, Bath etc. I once saw a Florence and Fred (Tesco) top with its original price tag on it in Oxfam. It cost £5, but Oxfam wanted 50p MORE for it.

  • I don't mind colour displays as long as the hangers have the plastic size rings clearly visible, and the garments are still on the rail in ascending/descending size order.

Oxfam is notably overpriced for all its goods; my favourite is the battered, creased Wordsworth classic paperbacks (originally published deliberately cheap at £1 each) priced at £1.99.
