I would email or write to them if you can't get any joy on the phone. Put on the letter that you are raising a complaint. The only thing that might be an issue is that you say the initial bill was £280, and they refunded £180, which means they have somehow decided you were liable for £100 worth. It that is the case, then I suppose they could say that technically the default was correct, albeit for the lower amount.

At least if you put it in writing, they should reply with a full breakdown. Play on the fact that they refunded some of what you paid, so as a gesture for the mix up (on both sides), can they remove the negative data from your credit records. I worked for Orange for a long time, and although I imagine things will have changed a bit, I am sure the 'basics' are the same, so it's gotta be worth a go! Only thing is, I can't remember the address you would need to use, but I am sure you can find it...or ask in the mobiles part of this forum. Good luck!
  • Thank you! Fingers crossed this works! It's the only thing standing in the way of us getting our mortgage!!
