Government and Banks agreement to update Basic accounts..

So far Natwest/RBS have launched their foundation account with no fees etc. Barclays have launched their Basic Current Account (just changed name from cash card account..)
Nationwide launch Flexbasic Wednesday..

The new basic accounts don't have any charges, -none at all, even if you have unpaid DDs etc., so banks won't want to give them to just anyone. They will credit check you and if you meet the criteria for a standard account, they will offer you that instead, on a take-it or leave-it basis. Yorkshire and Clydesdale Banks are doing the same -you can only have a Readycash account if you don't meet the criteria for their ordinary current account.
I suppose you could lie when you apply and say that you don't have any income and pretend to be in debt up to the eyeballs, and that might get you a basic account. Of course, some people won't need to pretend......0 -
