Travel Insurance

Hello
I've currently got an annual travel insurance policy through Direct Travel. I took this out in Jan this year and it will expire in Jan 16.
In October this year I booked a holiday abroad for July 2016. I knew I had to have a travel insurance policy in force at the time of booking in order to be fully covered. So, that box was ticked at that time.
The plan was to renew with Direct Travel in January 2016. However it appears that they are not taking new or renewed policies, so I will lose that continuity of cover.
If I now take out another annual policy presumably I won't get full cover for the summer 2016 trip as it wasn't in force at the time of booking?
Can anyone help on this?
Many thanks.
M.

We are going on a cruise in May. As we already have full worldwide health emergency cover we need only insurance to cover us in case we are obliged to cancel the trip due to a last minute medical emergency. Nothing else is required. Does anybody know if this option is available please?0

You're probably better off starting another thread as your post isn't related to mine.
Can anyone help on the original question?0 -

You could just take out single-trip insurance for the holiday that you have booked.Obviously this would not help if anything bad happened between the time of booking and taking out the insurance, but you could take out insurance in the next five minutes and so long as nothing bad has already happened then you are fine.
You could take out Annual insurance for 2016 with a different company, but before doing so do discuss your situation with them. My guess is that in the event of a claim the cost would be divided between the two insurers, but I fear that things could get complicated.0 -
surely its a pretty common situation? I would imagine a new annual policy would cover you from the date taken out for all aspects of the trip0

I'm pretty sure that OP would only be covered for cancellation on current policy up until renewal date. Upon renewal date a new contract of insurance would need to be taken out, either for single or annual and the original policy will no longer provide any level of cover after that date.
Most insurers aren't too fussed if you have booked a trip prior to taking out the policy, but just double check when you purchase that this is the case.0
